Blists Hill Village, Ironbridge

Needing a break from my children I took off for Blists Hill Victorian town this morning, while Ken took the boys to the "Enginuity" hands on museum in Ironbridge. It was a lovely 45 min walk to the village along public footpaths. Luckily it was a very quiet Sunday at the village, and I was one of only about 15 people present until leaving around 11:45am when crowds started arriving.

Early afternoon we took a long drive to Lakes District and we are now at Askham, Cumbria, staying in a lovely barn conversion for the next 5 days. We plan lots of resting, long walks through the district and pub meals!

We finished our day with a meal at Punchbowl Inn in Askham. Ken and Oliver shared a black pudding and terrine with pineapple sorbet and mashed peas (the sorbet and pea part was fabulous!) and Benedict and I shared a petit camembert and salad. The boys ate the black pudding before being told what it was, and yet (madly) they still insisted that they liked it.

Photos of the boys' morning out. Of note, they enjoyed the exhibit where they got to direct the flow of water canals and locks and dams -

The tidiness and lack of clutter appeals to me!
