Historical dwellings

Another beautiful day saw us visiting St Fagans National Museum of History, an outdoor museum not unlike Weald and Downland, but much larger. Someone seriously needs to develop one of these open air museums in Australia - to be able to walk through dwellings from the Iron Age to Tudor times brings history alive and makes things more meaningful. There is only so much a child half a world away can learn from a book. Early on in our day, we spent a good half hour chatting with a docent about languages of the area and their development, whilst Benedict filled time grinding flour using mill stones. Oliver enjoyed lounging in the sun on a park bench! We took a gorgeous high tea in the tea rooms to finish our day at St Fagans.

This was a cockfight arena!

Before ...

... and after.

We then drove to CaerphillyCastle - this place is magnificently massive!!! In fact, it is the largest in Wales. It was the castle in the television series Merlin. Once again we had a blast exploring the castle and its grounds.
